The Murphy Boys

they slept by themselves in bog boy beds!

Posted by in Uncategorized

Last night was wonderful.  Shiya slept in a bed for the first night.  I wasn’t planning on doing it this early, I mean he’s not even climbing out of his crib so why give up a good thing, right?  But recently he’s decided that he hates his crib and screams for hours.  So I tried letting him sleep in a bed and he loved it!  Ayrie always wants to sleep with me but I put a bed on the floor next to Shiya’s and Ayrie really enjoyed sleeping next to…read more

mom! mom!

Posted by in Uncategorized

Shiya was up first today and we both got a lot of sleep last night so we were feeling good.  He was running away from me laughing with a saturated diaper that hung down to his knees, pajamas and one fireman boot on.  We stopped when we heard Ayrie calling from the bedroom.  When we went in to see him he was bouncing up and down on the bed in his blue pajamas with beard and goldfish yelling “Mom!  Mom!”  I said “good morning Ayrie.”  And he just kept saying…read more

Shiya “Shiya fell asleep on the cot for the first time@  He participated in coloring with markers this morning.  He colored for about 2o minutes and enjoyed the activity a lot.  Outside he collected a few pine cones to put in his leaf bag.  He was happy to see where to bus the dishes at lunch and wash his own face with the help of one of the teachers.  Later he played with musical instruments in the foyer.”

First week at the UM CCC 9/25/09!

Posted by in Uncategorized

UM CCC is the University of Minnesota child care center.  It’s a wonderful place only a mile from my office on campus.  For the first few weeks they send home notes about the boys’ days. Ayrie “It’s been a good first week for Ayrie.  He’s a bouncy, enthused, engaged preschooler.  He played “Dinosaur World” today with B. in the block area.  He negotiated his ideas for the building and gave lots of big responsive smiles to adults and children.  He was affectionate, involved, active and talkative.”

Shiya “Shiya had a very playful morning!  He played with trains outside and he ran a lot in the grass.  He was curious about the ribbons hanging up outside so I picked him up so he could touch them.  He seems to enjoy the sound the made (they have bells tied to the bottom) and the feel.” Ayrie “Ayrie is a very content, cheerful and playful fellow.  Ayrie continues to be just plain happy throughout his day. No Negative seeming affects.  Ayrie continues to predominantly parallel play with and by…read more

Shiya Shiya cried for a minute this morning and then he was off and playing.  He sat at the table and we practiced cutting with scissors and gluing pictures.  He also played outside and had a good day!”

no hitting, kicking, screaming or biting!

Posted by in Uncategorized

The boys started a new school today!  They are now enrolled at the University of Minnesota’s Child Care Center.  It’s a center, which is the down side.  But it’s NAYCE accredited and seems like a really nice place.  The teachers were friendly, the rooms are clean and inviting, there’s a lot of beautiful outdoor space, the food is healthy and the curriculum is engaging.  The big plus it that it’s only fifteen minutes from home a mile from my office.  Ayrie told me that none of the kids hit, kicked,…read more

keep trying

Posted by in Uncategorized

Ayrie’s doing really well and we are trying another medicine.  Ayrie will be the first RRP patient in the country to try this and it’s really safe….so definitely worth a try.    It may very well not work but I am so lifted by the fact that our surgeon is still trying to make a miracle happen for Ayrie. And for all of my RRP friends and families out there, I’m not holding out on you!  I don’t think this is going to be a miracle cure.  It’s actually really…read more

dreams (the at night kind)

Posted by in Uncategorized

I have dreams (as in aspirations) which are exciting and keep me moving forward.  And then I have dreams (while I am sleeping) that are dark and scary and keep me from wanting to go to sleep at night.  My brain is obviously working over time to process and deal with everything and the meanings of the dreams are usually transparent metaphors. A few nights ago I dream that we were having a wonderful vacation on a crowded seashore beach.  The entire extended family was there and we had a…read more

Posted by in Uncategorized

Ayrie has been asking about death a lot, seemingly unrelated to his own health experiences.  So what does a 3 year old want to know about death? will i die mommy? why will i die mommy? do kids and their mommy’s die at the same time? does everyone who dies go in an ambulance? will i still have my bones when i die? will i still have my face when i die? will monica and eryn die too? what will happen to our houses when we die? Being unsure myself…read more
