first camping trip in the great MN wilderness

Posted by in Uncategorized

Okay, so it was a screen porch. And we didn’t get all the way up north to the real wilderness (just 2 hours north of Mpls). But we had a campfire, no bathroom and swarms or mosquitoes. So I’m calling in camping! Here are some photos:

shiya and the angel

Ayrie, Shiya, Gay (Ian’s mom) and I went to the arboretum this summer. It was pretty different than the Chicago arboretum and not quite as kid friendly, but absolutely beautiful. Shiya fell in love with this statue! From ayrie and shiya july 09 From ayrie and shiya july 09

Summer in Minneapolis

Posted by in Uncategorized

Minneapolis is really a beautiful city in the summer. I’m not sure about winter… it sounds like people either embrace the crazy cold or spend the winter scurrying about in tunnels and walkways. But until then, we will try to enjoy as much of the good weather as possible. Here are some photos from our first week in this great Northern city.

When Ayrie and I were in Minneapolis we made a movie to Shiya. Emily played the movie for Shiya and made a movie of him watching is. It melted my heart!! But Shiya has a way of doing that 🙂 shiya watching video

can’t slow this boy down!

While Ayrie and I were in Minneapolis last week to see doctors and get established as residents, we bought him a ‘big boy’ bike.  I think you can see that he was very proud! From Ayrie and Shiya June 09

These days… summer 2009

Posted by in Uncategorized

I’m not sure how to characterize these days…  It’s been six months since I pulled the kids out of day care.  It was a little rough at first.  We weren’t used to spending all of our days together and we were inside during a long winter.  But we hit our stride and have been having a great time. Here are some things that come to mind when I think about june of 2008 shiya’s soft, squishy, huggable body.  he looks at me with lovey eyes and says “I wuv yooooo”…read more

thirsty

Today Ayrie asked me, “I’m really thirsty.  Can I drink water tomorrow?” I said, “Of course sweetie, you can always drink water.”  He asked, “Can I drink water in Minneapolis?  Again I responded, “Of course!”  And he asked, “Then are we going to bring the sink with us when we move?”

my little kicker

Ayrie’s displayed an astounding improvement at his soccer game today over the first three weeks! Ayrie did not try to leave the game at any point and kicked the ball about half a dozen times. He even dribbled (in the wrong direction) three times. He seemed pretty intrigued with the coaches, and when we came home he told me that he wants to be a coach with a whistle when he grows up. Shiya was watching from the backpack, wiggling and yelling with excitement when the ball came near us,…read more

brown skin

Posted by in Uncategorized

Today i was getting dressed and ayrie told me i should wear a white shirt. When I asked him why, he told me, “Because you have white skin like Shiya, Emmy and Ian.” I said, “You’re right, I do! What color skin do you have?” He said happily, “I have brown skin like my daddy and Barack Obama.”

right and left

Posted by in Uncategorized

I discovered that Ayrie has learned his right from left! I think it mostly comes from driving in the car… he always asks which direction we are going to turn. After talking about right and left for a few minutes he said to me, “Mama, left and right are different, but yes and right are the same.”
