eagles & bobcats
Those of you who know me or follow me on facebook know that Ayrie means “a large nest of a bird of prey, especially an eagle, typically built high in a tree or on a cliff.” And since he died I have received so many messages from him through eagles. Sometimes just to say “Hi, I’m here.” Or to say, “You’re on the right track. Continue with this line of thinking.”
Other people get visits from him too like these facebook posts from loved ones:
This afternoon, we all picked Shiya up from school and headed to the airport. Nora was telling me an incredible story about a message that Ayrie gave to Shiya. (I hope she shares the audio recording that she made of Shiya recounting it!). It was one of the clearest messages that I have ever heard from Ayrie. Just as she finished telling me, we were driving over the Mississippi and a bald eagle flew so close over our car. I have never seen one quite that close before! Ayrie was telling us how glad he was that we got his message.
Even in Maine we were graced with a beautiful majestic low flying eagle this morning. Thinking of you all and sending love!
It surprised me to realize that I had never looked up the meaning of the eagle as a spirit guide from the shamanic world. I found a long post and these two sections resonated with me:
Tying in with this thread of thought, one of the lessons to be learned from eagle is not to depend exclusively on intellectual solutions. Through its connection to the air element, eagle is connected to intelligence, but also to Spirit, the knowing that goes far beyond intellect.
Eagle teaches us how to go through life without becoming attached to anything, how to accept what comes our way and see everything as a gift from the universe. With their acute hearing they hunt as much by ear as by sight. If eagle soars into your life, the ability to hear spiritually and psychically will awaken.
Indeed, my visits from the eagles invite and encourage me to connect with a knowing that goes far beyond intellect. When I’m trying to make a decision based on logic, I often get a visit from Ayrie in the form of an eagle showing me the path forward. It’s up to me to have the courage to follow that path. And every time I summon the courage to walk that path, my ability to hear spiritually and psychically improves.
Before bed last night I asked for a message from Ayrie and I awoke twice in the night. Once with the knowledge that I had just dreamt about bobcats, although I could remember the dream. And once with the image of three women in my head and the phrase “three wise women.” I haven’t figured out what the three wise women reference could be (maybe you have an idea?) but I looked up the shamanic meaning/symbolism for bobcats and what I read almost mirrored exactly something I had written in my journal earlier that day.
Bobcat animal totems encourage us to be more playful in our lives and more flexible. As they are very opportunistic themselves, the Bobcat asks us to reach out for more opportunities, break out of our molds & routines.
The Bobcat animal totem is also about creation, and developing our abilities into a higher level of value. Additionally, the Bobcat is also about the unseen and silent aspects of our inner selves.
This deals with our connection with creation as the Bobcat will ask us to deeply consider the innermost parts of ourselves that we don’t normally recognize. The Bobcat encourages us to delve deep into our hearts and minds and shed light on our potential.
Additionally, when Bobcat appears to us, we need to consider some passions that we have been keeping a secret. Now is the time to unleash our hidden desires – unlock our inner secret wisdom & talents.
I’ll write more about the journal entry later and link to it here. But for now, I take this message to heart. Play more. Connect with my inner self. Break routine to follow passions that I’ve kept hidden (out of fear) for far too long.
Do you have a spirit animal that shows up in your life?
Thank for reading.

About a month ago, I had a bobcat come into my yard. (I live rural). I took a great picture. Yesterday, another bobcat came into my yard, it had almost no brown on it and was quite small..I managed to get one good picture. I was looking for pictures of bobcats and found your site. All of the bobcat pictures online are brown, black and white. This one was 95% black and white with only brown on back legs.
I follow the symbolic totems and KNOW I need to play more. And as you suggest, keep looking for higher meaning from the Divine. Thanks for reminding me. Rose
